The Day Of The Locust Prop Case Used By Burgess Meredith

The prop drummer case carried by Burgess Meredith in his Oscar nominated performance in THE DAY OF THE LOCUST (PAR. 1977) based on the Nathaniel West nightmarish story of Hollywood wannabes in the 1930s. The film starred Donald Sutherland (as the original ‘Homer Simpson’) and Karen Black. Meredith plays Black’s ex vaudevillian father who is reduced to selling polish door to door in Hollywood. He uses all his theatrical skills to try and interest potential buyers – but to no avail. The film concludes at Grauman’s Chinese on the evening of the premiere of DeMille’s THE BUCCANEER in an orgy of Gothic horror. One critic called it “reality as fantasy”. To me, a pretty disturbing picture, but one you do not forget nor can you look away from. The case include his prop bottles, his invoice book with ink stamp and a guide book to the star’s homes. Also, a letter from the film’s producer from whom the prop was purchased. Condition is distressed, as used, with some corner flaking and wear. The images of the lobby card set and poster are for informative use only and are not included in the sale.

These handmade prop pieces were made by Prop Master Simon-Julien Boucherie and his staff at Universal Pictures. You are getting two Screen Used Props from the scalp scenes of Inglorious Basterds. You get a real wooden handle hammer with iron top used to kill Nazis. You also get an old rusted scalp ring used in many scenes of the movie. The hammer is mounted against a black background and measures about 12 inches long the scalp ring is mounted around the hammer With Til Schweigher’s Original Autograph. Til Schweiger’s Original Autograph shows him as Sgt. Hugo Stiglitz . He holds a machine gun and wears his Basterd Wardrobe proudly! The top of the autograph says: “Til Schweiger is a Basterd” At the bottom is an engraved Brass Plaque describing your prop and Autograph …these are all framed in a nice glass shadow box that measures approximately 15 inches x 12 inches. You also get a sealed Blue Ray DVD “Special Edition” Set of the movie so you can see your props in the film! A very impressive display with nice provenance.
