KING KONG Original 1933 RKO prop Shield This is one of the most amazing items you will ever have a chance to bid on, an actual, Original Prop from the 1933 RKO – KING KONG. The stop motion classic that set the standard for Horror, Sci Fi and Dinosaur adventure films for 80 years to come and is still as powerful and entertaining as the day it was released all those years ago! The item being offered is a native shield, seen on the Left side of drum. The King Kong DRUM prop is pictured for authentication purposes only. There have only been two “stars” of stop-motion model animation WILLIS O’BRIEN who made the 1933 KING KONG and RAY HARRYHAUSEN who made 7th VOYAGE OF SINBAD, VALLEY OF GWANGI and JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS, and of all the films made by the two of them, the original 1933 KING KONG is unquestionably the greatest and most significant in film history. PROFILES IN HISTORY auction house in Calabasas Hills, CA sold four of the same type of shields in their June 10 – 12, 2010 auction. It was the Hollywood Auction #40 Lot # 766 *LOT #766. King Kong collection of native shields (RKO, 1933) Large oval (4) fabricated of painted fiberboard, wood, leather, and muslin-wrappings brandished by natives of Skull Island in KING KONG , and almost certainly recycled for use again in SHE and other RKO productions. Shields range in size from 20 x 35 in. (plus attached pole) to 19 x 51 in. From the studio lot once the home of RKO and Pathe. Impressive assortment of genuine artifacts from one of the most beloved and significant horror films of all time. Condition varies, with some chipping to fiberboard edges, broken leather straps, etc., but for the most part are complete and intact. The drum in our photo with the shield, can also be clearly seen below in an actual photo from the film itself. These items from KING KONG, together with other props from RKO classics made by KONG’S creators, such as THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME (1932) and SHE (1935) were acquired by the Director who directed FORREST J. ACKERMAN in the Sci Fi cult classic THE AFTERMATH, and who starred in films like EMPIRE OF THE DARK, DINOSAUR ISLAND and DARK UNIVERSE. We have bought and sold a great deal of movie props and memorabilia over the years so, bid with confidence. They have been in his collection for over 20 years. He acquired the items directly from an old Hollywood store room at the original RKO/ Pathe studio, where they had all been stored for over 50 years. There were 2 shields in the collection. The only prop being offered in this auction is the Shield. The King Kong DRUM prop is pictured for authentication purposes only. The shield’s size is 20 inches wide x 63 inches tall, and weighs less than 3 lbs.
